Dear Readers,
On Wednesday last we had our annual school's Sports Day. It started at twelve and finished in time for home time. There were many competitions and novelty races. The best was the Junior High Jump or the slow bicycle race! As TY's we made the day fun for ourselves, dancing to the music and laughing on the matts. Later on we were allowed to play tennis, so a group of us challenged three of our teachers to a game. It was great fun, with two of the teachers getting a bit over competitive. Naturally we won, but then it was time for Teachers VS. Sixth Years rounders. The highlight of the sixth years final year. The students won, though there was a bit of fun cheating, but Mr.S our Irish teacher won man of the match.
The day was great and I can't wait till next year. The weather, though it was a bit iffy at first turned out great!

Easter Hols Are Over! :(
Dear Readers,
This Tuesday we returned back to school for our last 4 weeks of school and of TY! I can't believe it's nearly over, and don't I know it! We have an graduation night to prepare and several end of year projects and of course and good few summer test (just to prove we actually did class work!...joke!).
I'm really excited for summer though and I've lots planned. I still have my Geography, History and Science projects to finish and we have to put together a whole ceremony for grad night! I'm in charge of sound on the night, aswell as doing the MiniCompany and English stands!
The other class are organising hoodies for us and they are putting together a video for incoming TY's, so they have an idea what to expect from TY, though I think that was half the fun!Looking back on all my blogs and work I can see how much we have done and achived this year! We did so much more than I expected and we did it all well. I'm still having so much fun and I know it won't stop till the very last minuet.
It will be sad to leave TY, I will definetly shed a tear or two. I'm so greatly for all that I've experianced and learned, for my new friends and the chance to grow closer with old friends to.
I want to know what your favorite moment or trip in TY? I have to say going to Cork or the drumming workshop!

Music Night!
Dear Readers,
Every year in our school we hold a fundraising music night. The music teachers put the whole thing together organising acts and such! They pick solos from 3rd and 6th year, who are preparing for their practicals anyway and they year music class/year, puts together a piece to preform!
Us TY's had been working on a song called 'Mama Said' by Dionne Bromfield for the night! Myself, Leah and Roisin were on guitar for the piece. It was s much fun preforming and practising the piece, and we all really enjoyed ourselves back stage watching movies, singing and just general fun!
It went down well and sounded great! It's such an energetic and happy song with that great motown feel! And such a great young singer, who I wish her luck in her great future a head.

Japan Disaster
Dear Readers,
Japan as we all know has been hit by the worst natural disaster in it's history. Today in Religion we held a small prayer service for the people of Japan, all the lovers, friends, parents, children, family, the lonely, for them all, we had them in our thoughts. We layed out yellow paper to symbolise the coast line and green paper to symbolise the land. We put out the Japanese flag to symbolise the people of Japan, as well as a picture of a Japanese women crying. We lit candles to symbolise hope, and a gong to represent the Japanese culture. We lit incense to help us pray, and we lay out pebbles along the yellow paper to symbolise our prayers and thoughts reaching the people who are grieving for their loved ones and their country.
The Japanese disaster. "Disaster", such an appropriate word. These peoples lives are still in the middle of a disaster, with the possible meltdown of the nuclear reactor in Fukushima, farms ruined, water and food shortages, also the lack of shelter! People say that Japan are not a developing country, that they have money and previsions, that their "lucky". This angers me, they now have no jobs, schools, farms, homes, cars, lack food and clean water. These to me are characteristics of poverty and developing countries. A part Japan has become a developing country over night and the rest of the country feels that. The money this will cost to fix the damage already done, and that's if nothing else goes wrong. This is a chain reaction disaster; earthquake, tsunami, aftershocks, nuclear reactor fail. Lets hope the atoms chain reaction inside the reactor and the disaster chain reaction will slow and stop! I pray for Japan and I'm thinking of what I can do as an individual person in this world, of over 6 billion, can do to help.
Please give your thoughts and prayers to Japan and it's beautiful culture and people.

Lá Fhéile Pádraig!!!(sa scoil)
Dear Readers,
Yesterday in school at lunch time we held a céilí (dancing), in our courtyard for the whole school to celebrate St.Patrick's Day! It was brilliant because each year were given a Green Theme to dress up as such as Mythical Creatures, The Military or St.Patrick himself! The TY's were given AerLingus...a bit odd but we came up with a great idea!
We decided to have people dress up as pilots, cabin crew and tourists. We made up an airport scenario with tourists lining up with tickets and what not...but then! terror strikes and a terrorist comes in and ties up the pilots (including Ms.L!) and then Batwomen and Robin come and save the day! It was brilliant! The crowd loved it and we got Easter eggs to share in maths. Great way to celebrate our last dress up day in TY. After all that we had some great great craic dancing and just having fun! Everyone looked happy and had a great time!
Everything is going yo fast! Before we know TY will be over and we will be in big bad 5th year. Things are coming to a close. We still have so much left to do but you won't see the weeks flying! We're in March already...I can't believe it. In ways I feel I'm prepared to go on but another part of me wishes this wasn't going to be over in less than 8 weeks! You won't have to worry about me wishing TY away but I think next year I won't be wishing it back to much. To much of a good thing can turn into something tedious and annoying. It just ruins it. Plus there's lots to look forward to next year and beond like Poland, finishing school and going to college, also finishing up piano grades and much more outside.
'Finishing'? A word I've used a lot recently. It's weird. Last time I used the word was when I was in junior cert. and deciding between TY and 5th year. But you have to look at what started for me! TY, blogging, mini company, drama everything! I learned so much so far and I've a lot left to learn. That makes me excited for the future knowing I'll be going on to learn bigger and better things while using all the new skills I've learnt here and starting new things! 'Starting' will always follow 'finished', you know "when one door closes another one opens" A part of being human to me is to be always learning something, doing something new. I'd hate to be in a situation where I'm not doing something new or where I'm not learning one small thing everyday. Like that saying "you learn something new everyday", I love that saying. We're always growing up and maturing, and I've done more of it then I've ever done in my life this year! I've achieved a lot but I plan on doing a whole lot more before the years end! We may only have 8 weeks, but a lot can happen in eight weeks!

Margaret Alyward Drama Evening.
Dear Readers,
On Tuesday we headed off to Glasnevin, Dublin, to the Holy Faith Convent and Secondary School for a Drama Festival. The evening was organised to help celebrate Margaret Alyward's Bicentenary. The theme for all the productions was "what would Margaret Alyward do?". Margaret Alyward was the founder of the Holy Faith Sisters, who set up several secondary schools for girls in Ireland, St.Wolstan's (my school) was one of these. We had already celebrated a mass for her in February in Whitehall. But this Drama Evening was to bring some of the Holy Faith schools together and so what we know and think about Margaret Alyward, and show what she did and would of done for people.
We were there early because we needed to put all our plays together, shorten them down and make them more appropriate for the audience. The plays we were doing are the same as the ones for the Briery Gap Competition but just modified to the theme. Once we had the plays all sorted into one big play I was ask to sing at the end when all the cast members come on stage. I agreed and I sang an old song called "Lark in the Clear Air". It's a nice song and I didn't mess up my words or anything, thank God!
The other plays we saw dealt with issues such as discrimination against refugees, people from certain areas, disabled people, homeless people, people addicted to drugs and alcohol. It was interesting to watch them and see notice how aware we are to the problems facing people in the world today, but the truth of the matter is that we choose to ignore the facts because they scare us in a way. It's hard to explain but you know what I'm talking about. I'll be honest, I too sometimes ignore the facts but after seeing the plays I've realised I can't choose to ignore them forever! And one country and group of people that need our help now are the Japanese, especially the children orphaned by the disaster. Us TY's want to do something about, and we don't have alot of time left in TY so we need to do something now. We were thinking of different events we could hold and do, but please, if you have any suggestions in how we can raise the money, let me know!
Please help Japan, at least let them know your thinking of them.

Poland Update!!
Dear Readers,
On Tuesday we had the draw for who was going to Poland. I got picked!! I was so happy because I never really get picked for things like this.
Sitting there on the hall floor while our chaplain went around with a U.S.A. biscuit tin picking out names was an odd feeling. I didn't expect to be called out, but when my friend got called out that's when I crossed my fingers, that's when I got the hunger of really wanting to go. And low and behold two names later they say my name. I couldn't help smiling and thinking that this is going to be the trip of a lifetime. I will never get the opportunity to go to Poland again, so I'm determined to go. And even better I get to go with at least on of my best friends. I gave her a high five and then remembered that there were other people around me who hadn't been called out yet. So you compose yourself and say "you can celebrate later". After the draw it turned out most of my friends got called out and some are on the waiting list. Our teacher said that people will drop out so everyone on the waiting list will probably get to go.
I suppose if I was near the end of that waiting list I would have liked to not been picked out of the biscuit tin. I'm inpatient and often pessimistic in those situations so I'd be in a terrible mood till I knew for certain I was or wasn't going, that would probably mean waiting till October. I hate waiting, not having that definite yes or no. I could cope with not being picked out because I would be upset for a few mins and then get over it. It wouldn't happen.
That's just me. I hate when people say you should get rid of traits like that completely. We all need flaws because they define us, make us who we are. We would be very boring if we didn't have them. But I agree to the extent that we should just control our flaws, know whens best to show and use them even hiding them. But never rid of them.

Poland
Dear followers,
For this October the religion department of our school is organising a trip in Poland for the current TY's and fifth years. It sounds really exciting as the trip will include visiting Auschwitz concentration camp, Schnlinders factory, Pope John Paul II birthplace and a water park! For the whole trip we will be staying in Krakow.
But there is of course a catch. Only 40 students out of, roughly, 200, can go. They said that it will be picked out of a hat and that those who didn't go to Paris in 2nd year will get priority. I'm not sure exactly how they will do that as it hasn't been decided. I'm happy though that there is a priority as I didn't get to go to Paris.
I'd love to go to Poland, not only to experience the culture, but for it's amazing history that it has. I love history because I find it interesting. If I don't get to go to Poland it is still on my list of places to visit before I die. Also on that list is America/Canada, Mexico, Austria, Spain, Germany, Holland, China and Zimbabwe. there is a whole lot of world out there that I'd love to see and experience it all.

Hockey
Dear Followers,
On Monday the Junior Hockey team had a match here at home. It was against Mt.Sacville. It was a really fast game and according to our coach 'one of the best games of hockey she has seen us play yet!'. I play wing and was on for a part of the second half. In the end we won 3-0!!!!
Well done to everybody who played especially our goalie who never let the many that came for her in!!!

Margaret Alyward Mass
Dear Followers,
On Tues the senior part of the choir went the Whitehall in Dublin to sing with other Holy Faith schools for Margaret Alywards Bicentenary mass. The Holy Faith sisters are the founders of our school. But they were founded in 1867, by a lady named Margaret Alyward. She was a lay women who set out to love and care for the poor and especially the orphaned. She set up several Holy Faith schools in Ireland, one in which I attend today.
Lady Alywards mass was held on St.Bridget's day because they are so alike in what work they have done and them both being women. Margaret did often look up to St.Bridget during her life. I think she was an extordinary women for what she did. She was in prison for heresy and fought a lot of battles to.
It was a lovely mass and we met other girls from Holy Faith schools which was nice.

Mace Debating 2010!
Dear followers,
As you may or may not know I'm a pretty keen debater. So on Friday evening and Saturday afternoon myself and three other friends headed to Mount Sackville to participate in their annual mace debate. You may be wondering what the hell a mace debate is, well it is where you go, your giving your motion(what your going to debate about) and have fifteen minutes to write a five minute speech! It was my first time so I was really nervous! The first motion was "That this house will Impose Capital Punishment", and my partner and I had to say yes, bring back the death penalty. It was a tough one but the next one was the worst "That this house Believes that the X-Factor is a Tainted Brand" and we had to say that no its not a tainted brand! This was going against my beliefs and the fact that I don't even watch made it worse but sure enough we survived! On Saturday our first debate was "That this house will Ban All Violent Video Games". We has to say yes ban these video games so it was not to bad. The last one we debated on before the semi-finals was "That this house will Abolish Remission for Good Behaviour" this means stop all prisoners from getting out early on the grounds of good behaviour. We were opposing this motion and it was a pretty tough one.
Unfortunately we didn't make it to the finals but did stay to 'watch and learn' as they say! The semi-final debate motion was "This house Believes that in a Two Part State Solution for Israel". It was a very interesting one to watch and the final debate which was one of the best was "This house will Bring forward a National Government for Ireland" (one big coalition of all the parties). It was a great debate and I learned loads. I offer my congratulations the Casltenock Community College team A who got First place. They well deserved it.
Overall they were a great two days and I learned so much and made loads of new people. I really enjoyed it and would love to do it again!

The last one we debated on before the semi-finals was "That this house will Abolish Remission for Good Behaviour" this means stop all prisoners from getting out early on the grounds of good behaviour. We were opposing this motion and it was a pretty tough one.
Unfortunately we didn't make it to the finals but did stay to 'watch and learn' as they say! The semi-final debate motion was "This house Believes that in a Two Part State Solution for Israel". It was a very interesting one to watch and the final debate which was one of the best was "This house will Bring forward a National Government for Ireland" (one big coalition of all the parties). It was a great debate and I learned loads. I offer my congratulations the Casltenock Community College team A who got First place. They well deserved it.
Overall they were a great two days and I learned so much and made loads of new people. I really enjoyed it and would love to do it again!

Fun Walk!!! '10
Dear Followers,
This Friday we had our annual fun walk in school! T.Y.'s were given the colour yellow, which means we had to wear a yellow t-shirt and your tracksuit bottoms. Each class also had to do a dance using a song with theme of friendship. Amina has choosen the song Reach by S Culb 7! Our dance was amazing, and so much better than the other T.Y. class! But we won't no for sure till next Monday, when our class get the winning prize...hehe....!!!:)
After we preformed our dance the T.Y's set off to our stations along the walk, where we stand at crossings to help the other students cross safely. Always helping us T.Y.'s!;)
After we walked back to the school we got drinks and chocolate, which was nice! Then after a song and dance it was home time. It was a day to remember and I hope everyone enjoyed it!

JC Results!!!
Dear Followers,
This Wednesday I got back my Junior Cert. results!!! I had been waiting all summer to find out how I had done. We all received them at 1:00pm in the hall. We were lined up in last years class so I was able to have a chat with those who went on to fifth and who I hadn't seen all summer. Finally after some kind words from our principal we received our envelopes containing our results! It was really exciting and I was extremely pleased with mine!
Thank you to all the teachers I had over the last three years for all your help because I wouldn't have the results I got without you.
