Book Reviews!

This is my page where I will review and recommend books! I will rate, comment and recommend books that I read. I love reading and I read a lot of different types too, so hopefully I'll have something for everyone.

Enjoy,
Roisin.P.

"Boys Don't Cry" - Malorie Blackman = this book is by the author who we took our play Noughts and Crosses from. It is a story where Dante's ex shows up on his door with a baby. He agrees to mind this baby while she goes to the shops. But when she rings to say the baby is his and that she is not coming back, he if left holding the baby. I saw the plot  line and was really interested. It is so well written, and the sub plots and story are amazing too! It takes on a three men and a baby feel, which I like and the stlye is so easy to read. The context is so modern, because with the stories we hear this situation is very likely to happen to someone who had their whole life planned, who did well, but then their left holding to baby. What else could you do? The flow of the book was well paced with no slow bits, though it isn't a thriller, it sometimes has that sense of mystery. I say that because whether it's a mystery to you or the character, it's still really good and I liked how that worked throughout the book. It isn't to girly either and there is often a laugh to be had. Definte read,  5stars.

"Strombreaker" - Anthony Horowitz = as you may have seen I already reviewed "Skeleton Key", the third book in the series. So you know it's about a reluctant teenage spy, who has just figured out that his dead uncle is a spy and has been secretly been training him up for MI6. The whole story then switches to Alex having to save his country from a business man with a reason for revenge. When I finished reading Skeleton Key, I decided to go back and read them all. I have already seen the movie Stormbreaker so I had a fair idea of the story, and I have to say I was disappointed with the book. It was dull and wasn't as near as exciting as the movie. Like, I usually prefer reading action books before the movie because you can make the images in your head and imagine all the action yourself! But in this case it's different. The book had a good, simple story, but with room to expand the story further. The one main reason why I'd recommend the movie before the book in this case is because in the book its all through Alex's eyes but in the movie it sometimes changes to an other's, which is what I prefer, but I suppose that's a personal reason. Simple, easy read, 3stars.

"I Am Number Four" - Pittacas Lore = this book is about an alien who comes to earth with 8 others from a planet that has been destroyed by another alien race. Number Four or John Smith tries to settle down and stay hidden in a small town in Ohio U.S.A. He falls in love with a girl, and even though three of his comrades are dead and he is next he decides to stay and fight for his love. It is an amazing book and I'm really looking forward to the movie which comes out Feb 23rd! Especially since Alex Pettyfer is John. But the book never had a dull moment, I really got to understand the characters and fell what they were feeling. It is very well written. Anybody could read it and enjoy and understand a dilemma for one of the characters. It is one of the best books I've read in a long time, but I needed the tissues for the last 20 pages or so! Dramatic and brilliant, 5 stars.

"BabyBarista and the Art of War"- Tim Kevan = this book was recommended to me by the Barrister I will be doing my work experience with. He said it will give me an idea of the goings of the court system, plus it will get me reading as there's a lot of reading to do when it comes to doing law. The book turned to be a surprisingly good story! It is about a pupil barrister doing his pupillage at a chambers in London. It his diary of the goings on in chambers and of course the all important race for tenancy! The beginning was a bit slow but that was necessary to the book. The language was a bit hard to follow sometimes because on the books setting but nothing you couldn't keep up with. I would recommend this to anybody who is either interested in doing law or is curious about what really goes on behind the scenes of the court house. A good read, 4stars.

"Skeleton Key"- Anthony Horowitz = this is the third book in the Strombreaker series. It was a good book and it had a few "page turner moments". Some parts of the book were a bit slow though so it let itself down a bit there. Even though it is the third book in the series you don't need to read the first two to enjoy this book! I'd recommend this book to anybody who likes James Bond and other spy characters. Its not to nerdy so I think any body could read it and enjoy. I'd give it 4stars.

Coming soon = Any recommendations?
